Tami Bone: Queendom
Through October 29, 2016
closing reception: October 21, 6-8pm

“Queendom is a conjured world inhabited by benevolent animals who have a penchant for wonder.  A realm that commingles the physical and the spiritual, giving way to creatures touched by transcendence.  At its utmost, it is a longing for life.” – Tami Bone

David Johndrow: The Strange Familiar
November 10-December 23, 2016
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 12, 6-8pm
Holiday Open House: Saturday, December 10, 1-4pm

“My images are of common objects and creatures that I come across in the natural world around me. I strive to focus in on them with a clear eye and without preconception, as if I’m seeing them for the first time. Using various photographic processes, I aim to present them in a way that allows the viewer to experience the same sense of discovery. I believe photographs have the power to remind us that the everyday world, that we tend to take for granted, is full of strange and fleeting beauty.” – David Johndrow

In 2004, David began combining his interests in gardening and photography to create his ongoing series of macro nature photographs. To realize his vision, he prints with silver gelatin, platinum/palladium, gum bichromate and gumoil. His work has been included in many exhibitions in the United States, international publications and are part of the Wittliff Collection of Southwestern and Mexican Photography, as well as in many private collections.

Peter Brown Leighton: Live Snakes

Through August 26
artist reception Friday: August 19, 6-8pm

The imaginary vernacular images, taken from the portfolio “Live Snakes” are sourced from bits and pieces of discarded analog photographs acquired over the years from the dust bins of the twentieth century. They form a series of narratives composed of monochrome men fallen from grace, ambivalent women standing on the cusp of empowerment, and feral, free range children born to run.  Peter incorporates themes, introduced in his youth, that have continued to mutate and metastasize over his lifetime. While of the past (spilling over with question marks and exclamation points) they are also of the world as we know it today. A world increasingly more complex, uncertain and absurd than ever.

Tonight 6-8pm Nancy Mims: Beheld and Art at the Flatbed Building

Nancy Mims Installation_355dpinancy-mims_banners

Nancy Mims: Beheld
May 12-June 25, 2016
art night in the Flatbed Building: June 17, 6-8pm

Please visit us, CamibaArt, Gallery Shoal Creek, Flatbed Press and Gallery and a host of art studios tonight from 6-8pm for a great night of art!  Read more about Nancy, featured recently by Jeanne Claire van Ryzin of the Austin American-Statesman.

At Photo Méthode, Nancy Mims Beheld is on view. A continuation of her ongoing recent series The Sky Looms and The Passed Looms Present, with new intricate and intimate views of the world above and below. Often stitched or woven and printed on linen, her images draw the viewer to touch the earth and sky.

The Sky Looms translates the process of disassembly and reassembly of imagery into the acts of stitching and weaving.

“I was attracted to embroidery, I had the urge to stitch, but I could never summon the patience for traditional embroidery, could never sit and stitch – until I started these pieces. After I started stitching scaffolding in the sky, I couldn’t stop.”

The Sky Looms series works with “collaborating with chance” – to borrow Rebecca Solnit’s phrase. The result is in works that appear whole, but reveal their fragmentation and fragility of the structural underpinnings keeping the fabric (and image) intact.
